The Stanford Golf Course is a University-owned facility under the direction and supervision of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER). All constituents are subject to rules and regulations established by DAPER. Stanford University reserves the right to change the membership fees, green fees and other charges at any time without prior notice. Neither DAPER nor Stanford University is responsible for the personal property of golfers. Golf bags and other personal property should not be left unattended in the parking lot, near the clubhouse, or on the course. Failure to comply with rules and regulations will result in suspension of playing privileges.
Playing privileges are available to Students, Faculty/Staff, Stanford Alumni Association Members, Members of the Golf Course and their guests. Constituent groups, their spouses, dependents and guests have specifically designated times of access to the golf course (see the above links for specific constituent access, rates, guest rules and reservations).
Constituents who hold Stanford University identification must show current identification to gain access to the course. Alumni must be members of the Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) and present their SAA card to gain access to the course.
Rules of access for each constituent group can be found through the links above. With some exceptions, the first four tee times of each day are reserved for Stanford Golf Course Members. The next four tee times are reserved for constituents who pay a daily green fee. The cycle of four member tee time and four non-member constituent tee times repeats throughout the course of the day. Exceptions to this rule are Tuesdays between 7:30 - 9:30 a.m., Wednesdays before 9:00 a.m., and Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays before 11:00 a.m. Team events and member events also impact daily tee time reservations.
Hours of Operation
The golf course is open Tuesday through Sunday from dawn to dusk. The golf shop opens at 6:15 a.m. and closes just after sunset. The course and all practice areas are closed to all constituents on Mondays except Stanford Golf Team members and golf course management. DAPER offers the golf course to charitable fundraising groups, amateur associations and others on several Mondays every year. The course and all practice facilities are open on University holidays. The golf course and golf shop are closed at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and closed all day on Christmas Day.
Rates for each constituent group are defined on the constituent pages. 9-hole rates are only applicable on the back nine before 18-hole players make the turn or after twilight begins. 9-hole rates are otherwise not available for players starting from the first tee. Exception: junior guests of constituents age 17 and under may play 18 holes from the first tee at the accompanied guest nine-hole rate.
Tee Time Reservations
Any player who plays before 8 a.m. from the first tee is expected to play in 4 hours or less. Tee times which are not reserved by 3 p.m. the day before play may be reserved by any constituent with access to the course.
Wednesdays before 9 a.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays before 11 a.m., the golf course is reserved for Stanford Golf Course Members and Member Guests. Specific guest rules apply. On Wednesdays, members are allowed one guest per foursome before 9 a.m. On Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, members are allowed one guest per foursome before 9 a.m. and one guest per member between 9 and 11 a.m. Non-member constituents may bring up to three guests at any time that the constituent has access. If a non-member constituent reserves a time the day prior on Wednesday before 9 a.m., or Saturday, Sunday or Holidays before 11 a.m., the constituent must follow the guest rules.
Student and Faculty/Staff spouses/partners have the same privileges as their spouse/partner provided they have current Stanford identification. Stanford Golf Course Members and SAA Member spouses/partners without an Associate Membership are guests.
Constituent dependents are under the age of 18. Access and rules for Member dependents who obtain an Associate Membership are different than access and rules for any other constituent dependent.
Associate Member Dependents
An Associate Member dependent is the dependent of a Stanford Golf Course Member who has obtained an Associate Membership. Access is granted to Associate Member dependents under the age of 19, or 23 if the dependent is a full-time student currently enrolled in 12 or more semester or quarter units.
All players must register by name in the golf shop prior to play. All play must start from the first tee unless approved by the golf shop staff (some exceptions are made for special events and specific tournament formats). Each player must have their own set of clubs. Unauthorized persons or players who have not checked in the golf shop will be asked to leave immediately or return to the golf shop to check in. Four players is the maximum number of players allowed in a group. Groups of five or more will be asked to split up immediately. A single player has no standing and will give way to a group of players. Any group playing a full round is entitled to pass a player or group playing a shorter round. If a group fails to keep its place on the course and falls one full hole behind the group in front, it must allow the group following to pass. Play on the golf course is governed by the rules of the United States Golf Association.

Back Nine Play & Twilight Play
9-hole and twilight rates are offered. Rates vary depending on constituent type. The back 9 (holes #10 through #18) are available for play the first hour of daylight except Thursdays and sometimes Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Check the golf course calendar for special events. Players starting on the back 9 must clear the tenth green at a pace so as to not interfere with play that began from the first tee. The twilight rate is available to players playing from the first tee (#1). The twilight rate begins 3 hours prior to sunset.
Practice on the golf course is prohibited. Hitting multiple shots off the tee, in the fairway, from the rough and onto the greens is considered practicing on the course and is not allowed. Violators will be warned first. If the warning is ignored, the player will be removed from the course. Practice is allowed in the designated areas adjacent to the 18th fairway, near the 10th tee, and near the 1st green.
Dogs are not allowed in the clubhouse or on the golf course with the exception of service dogs.
Course and Turf Maintenance
Players are required to replace divots, rake bunkers, and repair ball marks to help maintain the condition of the course. It is the player's responsibility to make repairs. All players must respect signs directing foot and cart traffic on the course. After raking a bunker, the rake is to be placed inside the bunker. Privately owned powered single-bag carts are permitted on the course provided rules and marked areas are observed.
In order to avoid possible accidents, the speed of automobiles on the road approaching the golf course and in the parking lot is limited to 10 miles per hour. All automobiles must be parked in designated parking spaces.
Clubhouse lockers are made available to Stanfor Golf Course Members for a fee. Lockers are rented for a period of one year. Rates, information and rules regarding rental are available in the golf shop. Lockers are made available to individuals only. Sharing lockers is prohibited.
Golf Carts, Pull Carts & Club Rental
Golf carts, non-motorized pull carts and golf clubs are available for 9-Hole or 18-Hole rates. The maximum number of riders per golf cart is two. Golf course pull carts and privately owned pull carts are not permitted in the clubhouse. Exception: privately owned pull carts stored in lockers must be taken in and out the back door of the clubhouse.
Golf clubs are not permitted in the clubhouse. Exception: clubs stored in lockers must be taken in and out the back door of the clubhouse. Clubs shall not be carried through the dining room. Exceptions may be made for rain delays during competitive events.
Appropriate golf attire including shirts, slacks, shorts, skirts or dresses must be worn at all times. Shirts with a collar, mock neck, or turtle neck are preferred. Golf shoes, tennis shoes or golf sandals are required. Sandals other than golf sandals are not allowed. Bare feet are not allowed.
